Default Model 1903-A3 upper band installation

What is the procedure to mount an upper band on a 1903-A3 when the stock has no hole drilled or the new band's holes do not align with the hole that has already been drilled in the stock?

    • Glue dowel flush in any old holes,
    • apply band,
    • mark new hole locations on both sides,
    • remove band,
    • drill halfway from each side, hoping to meet in the middle.

Then drill the hole through from the opposite side.
There you go - the right way to do it! (No "hope" required.)

Thanks for all the information. I am embarrassed to say that I asked the same question way back in October of 2013. This time I will print out the answers. This old age sure gets more and more crazy as time goes by!
