M y brother who died in July left some nice guns -- including a Model 95 SADDLE RING CARBINE in .40--82 Winchester. His widow says it's going to me.
Anybody got any good smokeless loads for this cartridge?

My Dad left us one, a 30 Govt (30-40 Krag). I think Teddy Roosevelt had one in .405. I didn't know they were made in 40-82. You sure that isn't 40-72?
Black Powder is more fun, and it's more gentle.

40-82 was chambered in the Model 1886.

Vern,
look up trail boss or some of the other black powder substitutes,
no corrosion to worry about,
a member here I have bought from uses it in his cartridge guns (he shoots pre 1900 stuff) and loves it,
Ill do it as soon as i get the rifle.
