I have a complete and correct Toyo Kogyo Series 31 with a crossed mum. They did this with a chisel before they started grinding mums.

Bring back papers would be more correct. You could put couple meanings to 'capture' but here it implies it was captured by the GI on the battle field. They gave these rifles out to any GI that wanted one to take home, in Japan after the surrender.
You can never go home again.
