    Boats,I downloaded your picture and put it up on another forum where some flare gun collectors reside.I thought that was an aircraft mounting but not sure after looking at it closer.Maybe a vehicle or armored mounting?

    I found that it could be a Sherman tank or Churchill bomb or smoke thrower? unsure......

    Big Al over on the U.S.Militaria board says-

    "It isn't a flare gun. It is a 2 inch M3 Smoke Mortar used to project smoke shells from M4 Sherman Medium Tanks."
