  1. Default Springfield 1903 Take Down sporter ?????????

Just got this sporter, thought it was cool. Springfield 1903, still chambered in 30.06. Just trying to get an idea who did the work. Not markings of any kind on barrel. Haven't taken it out of the wood yet. Extremely well down takedown system. Other unusual feature is a lock on the front sight hood. Any guesses who could have done the work?

Wow! I think that rifle is right up there in quality with a Griffin and Howe. It probably originally came with a leather carrying case with acutrements.

That rifle looks like those made by Barney Worthen but Michael Petrov has identified it as being made by August Pachmayr in his post below.

Can you post a picture of the "Boss" on the right side of the receiver? The serial number would also help.

That is pretty cool. Have no idea of value or history, but quite a rifle regardless. That would of peaked my interest had I found it. Thanks for posting, even if I am clueless to what it is! Regards, John.

Pic of right side of receiver. Do these guns have any collector's value? Can't see to find any for sale on the net. Hope I didn't pay too much. Still, I like it. Read up some on the gun maker, thanks for the info.

I will be away from my computer for the better part of today and did want to keep you hanging. I still would like to see what I asked about. Your rifle was made by August Pachmayr of Los Angeles, California. August was one of the better makers and a sporter made by him is very desirable. Congratulations on a super find.

You were posting while I was typing, yes August made your rifle. Collector value................you bet.

" Hope I didn't pay too much." you did not ;-).

I am grateful for your help and don't want to sound ignorant but what is a "boss". More than glad to take a pic.

It's what you took a picture of, Boss is my word for that thing that sticks out on the right side. See how is has been rounded off and reshaped compared to a normal 1903.
