  1. Default CZ VZ 24 22lr trainer???

I just got this gun in. It appears to be a VZ 24 that was converted into a 22lr trainer at some point. It has a remington barrel on it. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Vito

Can you make out the last patent date on the barrel? With that you should be able to at least track down what gun Remington intended that barrel to go on. Something with only a short or long chambering is likely pre WWI.

After looking at my Model 511 ScoreMaster it would appear that the lined out section under "22 short, long" should read, 'or long rifle'. Is the chamber too short for a LR OTB? That would explain the need to line out "or long rifle". My hunch would be that somebody had a trainer with a damaged barrel. He discovered that a certain Remington barrel was a close enough fit. Unfortunately he had to reconfigure/machine the breech end to accommodate the Mauser bolt, thus shortening up the chamber a bit. What's curious is that somebody with that sort of talent couldn't borrow a LR reamer set to deepen the chamber to accept LR's again. If that were my rifle I'd consider having it done, if someone else hasn't already.

The designation '.22 short, long, or LR' had to do with with the rifleing twist, not chamber length. If it was marked '.22 Short Only' as some guns were, then it has the short chamber. Long & LR use the same chamber length, after all a Long is a 'LR' case with a 'Short' bullet
By the way the gun looks like a post-war Czech K98k, not a VZ 24.

Very interesting professional job. Take it out of the stock and see if the makers name is on the bottom of the barrel.

This rifle is a pretty much bog standard Israeli .22 training rifle. There were two versions of the .22 trainer, one built like the FN style trainer with full size receiver ring, and the other, which is this one, using a Remington barrel, and the receiver ring cut back to facilitate loading the .22 cart.

There should be a branded 0.22 marking on the heel of the butstock.
Enfield, everything else is just a rifle. Unless it's a Garand.

Long pig, it's what's for Dinner!

That's interesting info. It appears that "or 22 Long Rifle" was lined out on the Remington barrels as part of the building process, but owners state that their rifles do accept 22LR.
