Default Were the 1st Mar Div wearing Aussie uniforms in Oz?

Looking at HBO's PACIFIC again, I wondered (again) if they did not wear Aussie uniforms due to a lack of the normal USMC uniform of the day, on liberty and parade. Looked at Sid Phillips' website and the actual pics seem to show the same British style short jackets and big patch pockets. Color is more the British brown/OD, to me, as well. I am thinking the overseas caps should have been more forest green, maybe a costumer mistake?

I wonder if any of the real uniforms made it back to the States?

Feel free to tell me I am wrong...

    Griff,

Some of the uniforms did make it back to the states. I used to have one that was issued to Marine 1st Sgt. Tom Stephens, 1st Mar Div. The fabric was a brown serge, with tan plastic buttons. The styling was typical Brit-Australian with a Brit style label inside.
