Thread: Old(er) Bowie

  1. Default Old(er) Bowie

Hi Folks - I bought this repro bowie recently and wanted to see if anyone knew what it's a copy of, and who made it. It's about 16 3/4" overall with an 11" blade (1/4" or so thick). It's fairly heavy, and not unattractive, but the handle attachment and material (it's very soft wood - like pine...) seem out of place.

The only markings on it are "14" over "Texas" in all caps on the blade just above the guard. No country of origin noted.

It has a patina, but I won't be surprised to find that it's artifically enhanced.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

The bevel grind and the shape of the blade makes it a modern knife, perhaps hand made, but I doubt it. It looks like one of the German imports of about 30 years ago.

Thanks for the reply. I did find one more just like it on an on-line auction site (not ebay) but they didn't know much about it either. I'm sure it's not worth much, and I guess it will remain an interesting mystery.

And, once again, the internet amazes me... I just found a third identical knife, this one on ebay.
