    Default Mauser Lug Cut

Why does the 98k left lug have a cut thru it? Wouldn't it be better to have put it somewhere else and leave the lug intact for full strength?
In effect, wouldn't it would more accurate to say there is one full lug, 2 smaller ones and a third safety bolt lug?
Also, are there any collecting sights devoted to just the Mauser series? Thanks.

Isn't the cut the passage for the ejector?

Ejector cut, w/o it you would be prying fired cases out by hand. Open the bolt slowly and watch that cut when you reach end of pull!

Even with the cut the 98 Mauser is still extremely strong if made of good steel with proper heat treatment. In over 100 years nobody has improved Paul Mauser's basic design, in my opinion. Still the action of choice for hunting animals that can and will kill you if given the opportunity.
