Default In economics, nothing is what it seems it seems ...

Storefront closings occasioned by shoplifting and
other costly criminal activities seem to hurt no one
except Mr and Mrs Smith who can no longer buy
    whatever that store sold.

I know of a couple entire malls that are vacant in the middle of neighborhoods around here. Yes, one was poorly thought out. The neighborhood is old and delipidated. I don't know how they thought it was going to succeed.

Our one and only small mall is mostly 75% closed up. Most use it gets is senior citizens use it to walk the quarter mile interior.

We have a huge mall in a nearby city that has some closed stores. The seniors walk in this one too, mostly early before all the shops open. Interior perimeter distance is probably a mile or so--always heated and cooled so idea for walking.

A thought beside the point: I've always thought abandoned malls would make great colleges. There's numerous rooms with bathrooms, easy to walk to other rooms, well lit, no parking or bad weather to contend with, safer, and the building wouldn't go to waste.

Sort of college. AA meetings and Church of the eternal.
