Is there not supposed to be a strict division between Church and State in the USA? If so, why would the religion of members of a political party be relevant? Arguably, churches (and other religious entities) should keep out of politics.

The constitutional guarantee is from any mandated government religion, not requiring individuals to gove up their beliefs.

The term "separation of church and state" came from a misquoted and "spun" speech given by Thomas Jefferson

*But* getting back to the statistic...

No real big surprise there. Moral fiber is actually becoming an increasingly rare commodity these days.

Religion is man made. We invented it and it served a good purpose for a long time. Times have changed. The Dems are cutting edge so to speak. They don't know how to handle sharp instruments yet.

The First Amendment has a non-establishment clause, and Article VI Clause 3 says "but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
