I do not have a mobile phone, nor do I want one, so sitting
for hours in a crowded DMV awaiting my turn, apart from
watching an odd assortment of people milling around clutching
paperwork I also noted how all those sitting near me were endlessly
scrolling away on their smart phones. Nothing could have come up
of interest otherwise they would have stopped - so why do it ?
I don't call many people, but apart from friends, the professionals
I sometimes need to call employ annoying Robots who talk endlessly
in English and Spanish about which button to push depending on what
you want. It's getting to me, making me wish I were still living in
the fifties when people answered phones and there were far fewer
bureaucrats, television was free and people dressed properly.
I do not envy those who will be living seventy or eighty years from now
as it will probably resemble a science fiction novel the likes of Metropolis
or Soylent Green.

I use to have to get out and drive @ 4am. As I passed people on the interstate I noticed nearly all of them that I glanced at were talking on their phones at 4 in the morning. Other times like you said, when people are sitting around they are texting, viewing the internet or something on their phones.

As I've mentioned before: it's becoming so "normal" that future statues need to be erected of people on their phones glued to their ears or staring at them.

In the 60's EVERYONE had a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. Now it is this.

I even got "The Borg implant" Bluetooth earpiece.
I'm finding it has advantages over the old "phlip phlone", but it is addictive & you have to actively resist the siren song.

anybody CAUGHT texting on a phone when they go down the dam*ed road should get a punishment more severe then DRUNK driving!
A DRUNK is at least on the look out for the cops. Some MORON texting is only looking at their dam*ed phone and Is NOT watching where they are going.

There's a lot of ways a phone can be made to not work in a moving or running car but those improvements will never occur.

We drove for over a hundred years w/o having a phone. We don't need them now except for emergencies in a stopped or non-running car.

If you take your eyes off the road for less than a second, you could be in trouble.
A week or so ago I was in slow moving traffic when something fell off the front passenger seat.
I glanced down to see what it was , looked up to find I was inches from the guy in front who had stopped.
Phew, barely avoided hours of insurance crap.

My Google Pixel can be set up to detect motion & refuse to operate if you tell it you want to do that in several different modes.

Good to know but what I was referring to was phones being made not to function in a moving or running car and no ability to bypass that feature. If this were to be implemented it wouldn't just stop the calls it would stop the texting.

Now this caught my attention.

Euthanasia is not the leading cause of death in Canada, nor is it listed as a "cause of death" in the stats. Cancer has that distinction with about 80,000 deaths a year. However, at between 13,500 and 14,000 people a year euthanized in Canada annually at the moment it would be solidly in second place behind cancer in all causes of death . People "offed" by the state medical establishment for their own good has gone up sharply since mental illness was included as a cause (excuse?) for "assisted suicide."

In Holland euthanasia has been authorized for children as young as 5. I kid you not.

If I'm terribly depressed and hopeless feeling and blow my brains out or jump off a bridge its a bad thing but in Canada if I decide life stinks and I can't go on and get the state medical authorities to "help me out," well that's just peachy. To the Socialist left suicide is a bad thing unless they are complicit in it then its a virtue.

Just another case of how ghoulish the left can be and how slippery the slope is.
