    Default m14 , civilian sales ?

hi , I was recently told that the cmp sold semi auto 14 thru the cmp in the pre 1968 gun control act , these were former military m14 with the selector switch welded for competition, similar to the M1 Nm rifles is true?

No. M14s were still issue weapons at the time and there was no CMP.

Some years ago welded M14 rifles were made available to gun clubs for use in sanctioned matches. It is my understanding that these rifles were all re-called to be put back into service.

sear welded, or the selector removed and the button welded,

they were released to clubs and competitors for years,

then in the late 90's or early 2000's they all got recalled,

about the time the AR took over Service Rifle/High Power,

most went Smith or another vendor and were rebuilt to serve in the GWOT,

Would be easier to just grind off the small lug on the bottom of the receiver to that of an M1A receiver. 1/8" x 5/8". I've heard that's what Canada did with surplus M14's.
