    Default Raquel Welch is Dead

Raquel Welch, one of my favorite Latinas (she was born Raquel Tejada,) died today after a short illness. She was 82.

Two of my favorite movies starring her were "Hannie Caulder" a pretty darn good western in which she starred with Robert Culp, and "The Kansas City Bomber" a movie about roller derby.

She seemed pretty grounded too, in an interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox News she said she didn't check any boxes, not a scandalous character in her personal life (at least not for a movie star) not a hippie or a radical on either side. Probably a bit more conservative than most entertainers even in her prime. She was a regular on the USO circuit including touring with Bob Hope in his overseas shows for servicemen and at least occasionally showed up on Fox news.

If remembering right didn't she star in 100 rifles, a shoot'em up western?

Yes she did. She also starred in "Bandolero."

She was a better actress than she often gets credit for, she won a Golden Globe for her role in "The Three Musketeers," and was nominated for another for the T.V. Drama "A Right to Die." Her last performances were in 2017.

Saw it on the big screen a couple of times when I was young. Since there was no internet back then I remember seeing those movie posters EVERYWHERE. It was advertised as the movie of the year I guess. I enjoyed it---it was different.

I read her Bolivian born father did not speak Spanish at home, she only studied it later in life.
Only saw her in Fantastic Voyage, she was supposed to be just eye candy but her acting was pretty good, the scenes where the Proteus is injected into the patient, you can see the anxiety in her face.
