Great story of WWII Vet being united with three kids he almost shot

World War Two veteran, 97, is reunited with three Italians he saved as children from Nazis after his daughter tracked them down on social media with photo from 1944

Martin Adler, 97, flew to Bologna to reunite with the children, now in their 80s

Adler, who lives in Boca Raton, Florida, first found them hiding in a wicker basket in their home in an Italian village

He was a 20-year-old US soldier when he came across the kids in 1944
At the time, Adler was with the Allied forces as the Nazi retreated northward
He almost shot at the basket, but the kids' mom stood in front of his gun

'Look at my smile,' Adler said of the long-awaited, in-person reunion on Monday

His daughter, Rachelle, posted the 1944 photo in various veterans' groups on Facebook during COVID lockdown until it was spotted by an Italian journalist
The reporter tracked down Adler's infantry and posted the photo on local papers
