I was commissioned 38 years ago last Sunday. Seems like yesterday.
A V-Max isn't a match bullet. And 23 grains of IMR-4198 is slightly over Max(22.2 on Hodgdon's site) for a 40 grain bullet. They say that load runs at 3,652 FPS out of a 24" 1 in 12 barrel. 53,400 PSI.
    Spelling and grammar count!

Chances are I have had this 4198 on the shelf since you were commissioned so it has a right to have lost some of it's zip as I am sure you have over that period of time. Out of my 20" 1-9 barrel it chronoed 3375 to 3450 today. 10 rnd at 100 for a 1" max and .5 average.
