    Great STG-44 / MP-44!!! Excellent design. Just about ideal. About like the MG-42. Everything else is just imitation following art. Sincerely. bruce.

    not being too familiar with these, does anyone know what that trapdoor on the buttstock is for?

    I think what you think is a “trapdoor”, is actually the end of the sling as it is passed thru the butt stock . . . .similar to the K98 Mauser.

    no sir it is part of the buttplate top end.

    My mistake, Free . . . .(didn’t scroll down thru the photos far enough)

    I now see the trapdoor . . . . for an Oiler, me-thinks?? (Really don’t know these weapons)

    I went thru the pics and just dont see a trapdoor. Could it be the crude buttplate ?

    According to Ian at "Forgotten Weapons", the trap door is to hold an oil bottle. He shows the trap door at about 8:40 in the video.

    Thanks for posting. Now we know why the trap door is vertical.
