Default Bought a kabar today that I know nothing about...please help

Bought this today for $50. I know nothing about kabar. First thought was that the scabbard was a repo or aftermarket. I think the knife is WWII but not sure at all. Any info would be appreciated.

From the pictures you have a USN issued Mk2 knife. Who is the manufacturer? The sheath doesn't look issue.

The sheath is an early one piece type that were made for the Mark 2 knives. But since it’s an early sheath it probably would have been originally issued with a WWII blade, marked rather than guard marked, Mark 2.

Is it not a WWII knife? If not about when was it made?

Knife appears to have the early heavy pommel.

I was in an antique store today. They had some old Kabar knives. The pommel on mine is without doubt thicker. Does that help date the knife?

Yes, it’s WWII. They changed the placement of the markings on the U.S. Navy Mark 2 knives from the blade to the cross guard in the 1944. The guard marked knives were made from the latter part of 1944 into 1945.

Thanks for all the info. It was a lucky flea market buy and I am glad to know more about it.
