Years ago I found this number 8 peep sight, could someone have made this sight or was
it an issue item ? it looks original but have never seen or heard of another #8 peep.P1010039_0038.jpg

I have 1916 NRA Springfield in new original condition and it's fitted with a #9 rear peep sight. So I'm not the least bit surprised to see a #8 rear peep sight.

Thank you J.B.
I've seen them mentioned in documents before.
So, would a #8 be .080 inch and a #9 be .090 inch in diameter?

The number .10 peep used on the USMC sights although others might have used it too
Best feature is the new front sight which allows the 200 yard rang with the flat leaf sight
compared to the old 547 yardsP1010047_0034.jpg

I have a hand full of ones that were marked "6", struck through with an "X" and re-stamped "8". I guess they were spares that were altered after it was decided to go to a larger size. I have seen others marked like the OP's with just an "8".
