Rock Island 229057 with 9-44 flaming bomb Segley barrel (not USMC). This a low number gun that I hardness tested - it blunted a 50 Rc cold punch - this receiver is HARD! Can't believe it managed to make it to WW2 era. Any cursory hardness test would have sent it to the scrap pile! Gracias amigos!

I'm not a huge subscriber in the whole low number scare, bc high numbers had the same issues. But you might just be a fuzz careful with that one. What I'm understanding is, you tested the receiver and it was over a 50 on the Rockwell hardness test?

Back then they determined that a receiver that tested 20 to 45 on the Rockwell hardness test was safe. The too soft ones are not a issue to the user, as the worse that will happen is they will stretch and then eventually loose head-space. But the too hard and brittle ones were the ones they worried about, bc they could grenade if there was a failure with the round.

Both high and low numbers had problems of having too hard and brittle receivers. So just be a fuzz careful.

    But here is your SRS.

Thanks Corporal! Lots of New Yorkish stuff there, but there's no telling where this one went.

I won't shoot this one - this is the one I have on the fireplace mantle for my friends and family to handle and learn on. Knowing it wore out a barrel, I'm like you - it doesn't seem to be an issue. And yes, it did dull my 50 Rc punch. It would probably ring like a tuning fork if it was stripped and you thumped it!

I really appreciate you senior guys sharing your info and experience. It makes my weapons ten times more fun to have. tree
