Default Dallas Mayor pro tem Dwain Caraway wants the NRA annual convention there cancelled

So councilman and former Mayor Caraway wants to cancel the NRA convention - blaming us for the tragic school shooting in Florida that killed 17.

He's quite right to be super concerned about those deaths as are we all.

His city, Dallas, had 166 murders in 2017, ten times the deaths. Only 49 percent were cleared by arrests, meaning there are up to 85 murderers in Dallas who got away with their murders.

    Think about the gall.

The politics and grandstanding are taking from the mourning and serious concerns of how to address the problem responsibly.

A guy doesn't have to agree with them, but it should be easy enough to understand why people are mad. They don't like getting shot at. They don't like it when their kids or parents or spouses get shot at. Maimed. Killed. The NRA's advice is: return fire. Fine if you're in the infantry, but not everyone wants to go through life like that. They wonder, is that too much to ask? Not saying someone has to agree with their prescriptions, but it shouldn't kill anyone to recognize a shared humanity with them, that you have something very fundamental in common with them: you wouldn't like getting shot at either.

That is not the only answer NRA has. After all they wrote the law for the instant check system, and suggested many of the punishments for not following or lying on it. Yes they do back concealed carry and self defense, cops are never there when you need one, and chances are good you will not have time to call one!
You can never go home again.

That's not much to share...animals don't like getting shot at either. Beyond my shared status as a mammal, I have nothing (important) in common with them. Never would it occur to ME to blame the instrument used by someone to harm me, rather than the person using that instrument.

In his Message to Congress urging passage of the Ku Klux Acts, President Grant noted that among the Klan's many crimes was:
"They have conspired to deny Negro citizens the right to own and bear arms."
The NRA-us-is one of the nation's oldest civil rights organizations.
