My Dad served in WW2 in Panama. He brought home a pair of boots that were almost knee high and laced up the front. He never mentioned he was near horses or the calvary. What unit would wear such boots?

The photo of the knee high boots are the same. But, there was no info for the photo.
The other photo is not the one. Dad's have no straps.
