Default Smith & Wesson Model 68-2 LAPD

Purchased and did the paperwork on new revolver today. It is a S&W Model 68-2 chambered in .38 Special and marked Los Angeles Police Department on the right side of the barrel. Revolver is NIB and unfired. For those of you not familiar with the Model 68, think of a Model 66 Stainless Combat Magnum chambered in .38 Special vs. .357 Magnum. Only about 6,000 of these were produced first for the California Highway Patrol and later on for the LAPD.

Nifty gun! I have never seen one, only pictures. If one ever showed up, out here in fly over country, I would be on it like a bird on a June bug! You done good!

Beautiful revolver! Hard not to like a SS K-frame in .38 Special! From the range results, this revolver is most certainly a keeper! Sincerely. bruce.

    Cool

For anyone who might be interested.....more law enforcement revolvers.
A friend recently picked up two interesting revolvers from a gent who had been in law enforcement for some years. Both are mint condition/possibly unfired, and came in nice walnut display cases.. One is a S&W model 65-3, 4" stainless marked "San Diego Police Dept", The other is a stainless Ruger Vaquero in .40 S&W, marked "San Diego Sheriffs Dept". It also came with a beautiful walnut display case and sterling badge. A limited run of just over 1,000 of these Rugers was made circa 1980, in the .40 S&W (SD Sheriffs Dept apparently had just gone to using the .40 S&W for their duty guns).

Don't know how much collector value these have, but they are certainly a bit unique, and worth hanging on to.
