A reminder to Colt revolver owners. Read the article on www.coltfever.com under “Gunsmithing” before attempting your own Colt revolver repairs.

Many parts for early Colt revolvers required hand fitting which might require special tooling and can often lead to poor results for DIY gun owners who might be tempted to service their own revolver.

Later Colt revolvers used sintered (aka powdered) metal parts which have rock hard surfaces but soft interiors. Stoning or filing these parts can remove the hard surface and expose the soft interiors and results in a part that quickly becomes worn beyond its ability to function properly.
