    Default Krag 1896 sight repair

I need to replace the elevation slide on my 1896 sight as it is broken. I have a donor sight. Besides the small screw are there any hidden pins I need to know about.
If any one else has done this please tell me any hints.
    Thanks

I have never had on apart so really can not help. Usually if you start to take it apart it will become apparent what has to be done next. Just do not force anything.
You can never go home again.

    Default The slide assembly...

on the '96 Krag rear sight is NOT pinned like the 1905 type on the 1903. You need only remove the screw on the left-hand side of the slide, (carefully) slide the dovetailed right end out of its slot, and the top and bottom halves of the slide can be separated, permitting removal from the staff. Good Luck!

'mhb' is spot on. However, use care. There should be a small coiled spring positioned cross-wise between the two legs of the sight leaf and sandwiched between the top and bottom halves of the slide.

As long as you replace the whole slide there are no hidden pins. However, if you need to replace just the knob there is a "hidden" pin that is tricky to remove.
