Definitely India. Pic two shows the Ashoka and further on it has the Small Arms Inspectorate marking. The SA with a broad arrow capping an I. Aside from the rest, those two marks seal the deal.

Yep those are the marks I felt I.D.ed it. I've never owned any post independence Ishy stuff. The post war acceptance stamp I had to look up. The two number 1s I have that needs barrels are a 1938 Brit and a 1915 Lithgow. Both have been rearsenaled before so I don't care, I just didn't want a South African U marked barrel.
