    Default Stevens m77 on GB

Just a couple observations. Of the few M77E's I've seen, doesn't the "US" marking belong on the other side below the ejection port. 2nd, The "S" appears to be upside down. Other than that it "appears" legit. GB 570112716

On my USGI 77E, the US stamp is on the right side of the receiver under the ejection port.

Also, shouldn't the model # on the barrel be marked "77E"?

Also note that the Stevens barrel address is "Chicopee Falls, MA". Savage closed the Stevens facilities in Chicopee Falls in 1960 and moved operations to the Savage plant in Westfield, MA and Stevens became a division of Savage in name only. Three years before this contract was issued in 1963.

    James,
I'm a collector and researcher of Stevens 520/620 shotguns.

It doesn't even have the correct type front sling swivel.

And, it has the wrong rear sling swivel. Additionally, the stock is in new condition - like the ones that show up on eBay every now and then - sure doesn't match up with the pitted receiver and faded bluing.

The receiver is the biggest giveaway - the 77E had a straight, uncontoured receiver where it meets the barrel and magazine tube. This "extremely rare" shotgun has a Model 77 receiver that is "scalloped" where it meets the magazine tube.

Yes, barrel should be marked "77E".
