If(since, really) your pop is American, that's a costume, not a uniform. Unless he was a bandsman playing pipes. Fair number of American pipe bands operating before and during W.W. II. http://members.purespeed.com/~pipetu...ngHistory.html
Quickest way to make his(or any Scotty's) head explode is to say things like "wee dress" or "Catholic School girl". Be ready to run though. Really hard to run fast when you're laughing that hard. snicker.
Can't really tell what tartan in a B&W picture.
Spelling and grammar count!
Difference between the pipes and an onion. Nobody cries when you cut up a set of pipes.
(have around 30+ piping CD's)

I've used that line on a few Pipers in the past. Raises a few eyebrows before the intent of humor is realized. Last time I used it was with a small group from the Emerald Society. The Chicago Police bagpipe unit. They laughed...but told me I owed them a beer.

"Do ye gang regimental, Laddie?!" Is the polite interrogatory. If yes, he is wearing it as the military do, with nothing underneath, as several photographs including group panoramics with Her Majesty have proved over the years.
