    Wow! Those made in that same year were considered to be Trial rifles weren't they Dick?

    I think it was just early work on the switch to using a receiver, in response to complaints about the 1866. There were no formal 'trials' in progress.

    This new find has yet another version of the 1868 stamping. Coarser than mine, and tighter spaced, as well as being very heavily struck, but seriously misaligned. They must have been done by hand.

    I have photos of a number of the blocks, which I may put up. Wish I could get one of yours.
