While looking through a 1995 Vol. 4 of SRS book on serial numbers, I noticed that at least 1/2 to 2/3's of the Krag listings were for rifles that were destroyed in 1929. Did the gov't demil/destroy perfectly good firearms back then? Just curious.

I believe that a large number had something to do with a fire at the New Cumberland PA National Guard base.

I have long wondered about the 'New Cumberland Guard Krags'. I have not been able to locate any information on a disaster, flood or fire at New Cumberland, Pa. in 1929. I believe this was a Federal Depot and suspect, regrettably, those documented Krags were destroyed intentionally, as obsolete equipment.
