    Default Smith Corona Correct?

    Bought this one off a CMP forum member. Grainey pics, looks all SC except cutoff has an looks like an R. 6 groove barrel 43 dated.smith corona 001.jpgsmith corona 002.jpgsmith corona 003.jpgsmith corona 004.jpgsmith corona 005.jpg

    I note the following:

    (1) The magazine cutoff has been replaced as you noted,
    (2) The large bow trigger guard is not contemporary with the serial number,
    (3) The finish on the buttplate looks unusual.

    Mr. Beard, what is unusual about the butt plate finish? Looks to be oiled Parkerizing.

    The original finish on a Smith-Corona buttplate was blue. A few Smith-Corona buttplates were parkerized, perhaps as an alternate finish when repair/rework was necessary. But those are rare.
