    Default Trapdoor Metal Pistol Grips

I am looking at 2 Trapdoor rifles. Both have the metal pistol grips that screw into the trigger guard. I did find an article on Trapdoor collector but I am trying to find more information. From the information on the site these are original and not reproductions. When did that come out? Were they for competition shooting?

Unfortunately these grips were installed using the same rear screw hole in the trigger plate (with a longer screw) as the standard TD.

This puts the grip FAR to much to the rear!

I had one installed . . . then removed it . . . . 'cause it was all but useless! (Maybe if I had a larger hand!)

These grips needed to be about one-half to three-quarter inch CLOSER to the rear of the trigger guard bow to be of any benefit. --Jim

You mean there are TWO walnut-gripped ones?

45govt: Would you mind providing the serial number of the rifle shown? If you do not wish to publish it, you can email me at richardahosmer@comcat.net, or send a PM. Many thanks.

There were or may still be reproduction metal grips available through S&S. I used one for years when I shot competitively.

That is a grip my dad made for me based on Tom's LR with the Kelton grip.
    Pretty good job eh?
