    Default Update 1/8 twist .223

I finally got to try out that miserable 1/8 twist barrel today. I did cut a new crown and noticed that when the tool contacted the barrel it seemed to catch on the right side of the barrel. The new crown is now a 45 degree cut. I was shooting 75 gr Black Hills Match ammo. Results are fantastic. Groups now are under 1" @ 100 yds if I do my part from a rest. I guess I will not destroy that barrel. HAPPY HAPPY

It's been a long struggle, over one year of cuss'in, trial and error. Many, many bullets, powder and primers.

Great! Congratulations on your success. Always gratifying to have a problem like that solved.

yes, but it was worth the drill.
I've shot out barrels on prairie dog rifles (.243 bolt rifle) and had the barrel cut back and re-chambered only to have it shoot a WORSE group.
So now I'm into it 130 dollars worth and if I want to rebarrel it, I'm looking at another 3 to 400 bucks.
So.... I just bought a NEW savage rifle in .243 for $540. Everything is new, sold the other one with shot out barrel to a guy who wants to rebarrel it in .308 so I got $250 for that.
As you can see, your playing around saved you a couple of hundred bucks or more.
BTW... this was a 2003 timeframe and prices I'm telling you about.
