Default SKS scope - does it hold zero ...

when you have to keep removing the cover it's attached to for cleaning ?
My eyes, like me are getting older and the 100 yard target seems to
get further away with the years. A scope would simplify things, but not
if it keeps losing its zero.

mine never did. and it was a very tight fitting cover.

Same with every one of mine. I made a machined scope base to try to tighten up the fit. It didn't work either. some people have luck with a scope on a SKS but most I guess not.

I guess the tight fit depends on the strength of the spring.
I have to press my cover in hard in order to lock it, so hopefully
that should be enough. I'll go ahead and buy a scope.
If it doesn't work, I'll blame you two.
    Thanks.

i used an sks with a long eye relief scope mounted to the rear sight base on the range one day that worked great for my eyes. if i ever mount a scope again i would go that route.

The Rooski side rail mount works very well for me. You would need a good gunsmith to attach one though. I slide my red dot off the rail every time I clean my WASR 10 and there's only been one time I've ever had to make any adjustment at all to the sight after several years of shooting (and cleaning) it regularly. Easy off, easy on, holds zero.

Free 1954 is correct that long relief mounts seem to work very well also.
