One more question please

While refinishing the stock on my 1903 I noticed 2 holes in the butt stock. One of course is for the cleaning kit. The other one is not accessable with the butt plate screwed in place. What was the purpose of this extra hole? Thanks, Rick B

It's purpose is to lighten the stock weight.

I concur with Dad. The intended purpose of the hole was to reduce weight. But the hole also improved balance.

Thanks for the info. It had occured to me that lightening the weight was a possibility but I just wasn't sure. Rick B
