I thought the conversion made the rifle over one inch shorter.
    An op-rod for non-converted .308 M1 is the same length as for .30-06 M1.
Perhaps your op-rod has simply had the original piston cut off and replaced, I suspect it would function just fine.
From what I am told a .308 oprod is the same length. Only the Italian oprods were cut down.

If a new .308 barrel of original length was used , the rod would be the same .
If the original barrel had an insert installed , the rod would be the same .
If the original barrel was cut down on the backside , rechambered and rethreaded , the rod would be shortened by that amount . About 1/2 inch.
If a tanker was made with an original barrel cut back at the muzzle by 4 inches (?) or a new shorter barrel , the rod would be 4 inches (?) shorter.

The Italian conversions are 1/2" shorter, they took a standard barrel and shorten the barrel, the op rod and the stock. If you use a aftermarket barrel such as Criterion, the op. rod remains untouched

Maybe this time he'll advertise it as what it is. There's no doubt he knew and found it to be a bit of a white elephant.

I know, lucky I am getting a refund! CMP mods stopped him from selling unless resolved. I know that put xtra pressure on him.
