    Default Old Remingtons

Sometimes you don't know if there has been any real progress in the last 100 years.

Grand dads Model 17 in 20 guage, pump, bottom load, bottom eject, takedown
Grand dads Model 14 carbine in 35 Remington, takedown, designed for pointed bullets in a pump
Just acquired Model 12C in 22 s/l/lr, pump, takedown, still works fine.

Family story is my dad in the beginning of deer season with the 35 Remington. Rabbit jumped out and dad forgot it wasn't the shotgun. Mr. bunny exploded. they do all handle the same.

I have several M-30's and a model 720, several Win. 54's and one M-70. All the Rem. were derived from the US M-1917 which was derived from the 1898 German Mauser. With few exceptions all bolt rifles are variations of 1898 Mausers. Few are real improvemnets.

Hard to believe it hunted Pennsylvania woods for 3 generations. Grand dad was a master machinist. He took care of things, so I have the legacy to pass on. Fortunately my kids are respectful of things like this.

I paid the local pawn shop $80.00 for a 341 Rem. I'd never shot one before. I'm still impressed ever time I shoot it.
    It is a baby Mauser.
