    On the Garand, you should apply white lithium grease to any parts that slide, such as the follower (rails included), op rod where it contacts the receiver and bottom of the barrel, etc. A lot of people have received Garands from the CMP and they arrive bone dry (my brother-in-law included)... and then they wonder why they don't operate properly. I apply the grease to the bolt lugs and trigger group too. Never fire a dry Garand Rifle!

    But I still grease the recesses that the follower rides in, was taught to do that.
