  1. Default 1903A3 Front Sight Height

I have put a 1903A3 back into original configuration from a modified sporter rifle. Thank goodness the barrell was not cut down. I am down to the front sight height. From Joe Poyer's book he states:
"Front sight blades were manufactured in the following heights: 0.537, 0.522, 0.507, 0.492 and 0.477. Extra high front sight blades were available and marked A, B and C."
My question is what is the standard height for the 1903A3 rifle?
    please let me know.

I don't ever remember seeing an original rifle with anything other than an A front sight.

I've seen rifles with all variations. I have no idea if they were factor original or not. My guess is that "standard" was which ever blade placed the M2 rounds on target at the proper range mark. Statistically speaking I'm sure there was one more common than the rest. As an engineer I hope that it was one in the middle of the range of blade heights

B is whats most common...C is a close second from what iv seen
if you plan on shooting, i would go with an A
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.

The front sight blade height was selected at factory targeting to zero the rifle when set at 100 yards. The blade heights, therefore, varied from rifle to rifle. "A" is the tallest and most common height with "C" and "E" seen correspondingly less frequently. "B" and "D" were usually skipped over and are very scarce.

    Hope this helps.

It is easier to file down an " A" than streach one that's too short.
Also depends on if you use a 6 o'clock or center hold .
They are cheep , buy the one that's easiest to get / find , see how it works for you , adjust from it .

I have an A on the rifle now. I was just wondering If there was a standard for the 1903A3. At one time I found a range pocket book for the 1903. Does anyone know if this was modified for the 1903A3?
