Winchester Potbelly M2 stock, type V??

Ok I bought about 50 M1 Carbine stocks several years ago. I was just going thru them yesterday and in there is one that appears to me to be a Winchester Type V potbelly M2 stock. But as I research it online, they say they do not exist. And they say there was a Marlin made stock with a M in the slingwell.

Looking at this one though, it appears to have all the Winchester features. It has a flat bottom, big fat wide pistol grip, slant cut in the slingwell, and it has a W or M in the slingwell. When I compare this to my earlier type II and type III WRA stocks I have, it appears to me to be identical in the features.

I don't know if my pics really show the detail of how fat the grip is, or how flat the bottom of the stock is, but it's identical to my other Winchester stocks. In fact I probably should photograph them side by side as they are very similar.

What do you guys think? I know these aren't supposed to exist but it appears Winchester to me.

I can tell you that the Winchester W is much smaller then the one in your stock. And there are no records of Winchester ever making the type 5 stock. There are type 4 stocks that were made and stamped with an M and these could have carried over post war into type 5 production I guess.

Does anyone know the maker? Was it just a rebuild program made stock?

With the exception of the slant cut milling for the sling, which this stock does not exhibit, the other "Winchester like features" can be found on stocks made by other manufacturers as well. Marlin being one of those manufacturers.

Interesting....I have a winchester low wood stock that is late production with only the Winchester crossed cannons. It has both types of W in the sling well; the usual short w and a tall W. How do you explain that???

Need more pictures then just that one. How about one of the barrel channel, rear without the butt plate, inside milling, & under the recoil plate for starters.
