does anyone have an opinion on what would be correct rear handguard for a 1950's Longbranch... grooved or smooth?
thanks in advance

Smooth , although I have seen 1950's dated C No7MkI* .22 Rifles with grooved rear or lower handguards .
I could only see the grooved handguards being useful if you carried your rifle at the "trail" . They let a little air circulate so your palms don't sweat so much.
If you have any more Long Branch questions shoot me an e-mail . I have been collecting them , shooting them , monkeywrenching them and building them since I was 15 and a Rifleman Recruit in the Victoria Rifles of Canada , a Montreal Army Reserve Regiment .
Cheers,
JR
