    does anyone have an opinion on what would be correct rear handguard for a 1950's Longbranch... grooved or smooth?

    Smooth , although I have seen 1950's dated C No7MkI* .22 Rifles with grooved rear or lower handguards .

    I could only see the grooved handguards being useful if you carried your rifle at the "trail" . They let a little air circulate so your palms don't sweat so much.

    Both my '49 and '50 have smooth.
