Default Collector consensus on available M1911's

Given the amount of collector grade and 'shooter grade' M1911/A1 pistols available to the civilian market, what is the consensus on how many total from each manufacturer exists? For example: as RemRand made about 875,000 pistols during WW2, how many are available in the civilian market? 200,000? 100,000? Of that, how many are 'collector grade'? Discussion.

I can't give any definitive answer to your question, perhaps some of the "experts" can.

What I know is this. I started collecting 1911 / 1911A1 pistols about 25 years ago. From what I've seen on
the major auction internet sites, is that the good, collectible pieces are becoming scarce. As far as local gun shows,
they almost do not exist, at least in our area (Pittsburgh, PA).

Where I'm seeing them more, and at very high prices are at premium auctions such as the "Rock Island Auction"
that happens a number of times per year in different locations, bids also allowed by internet. This is what is
responsible for the gross inflation that now prices a WW II Singer 1911A1 at over $130,000. They bring top Dollar.

Is this good for the hobby? I don't know, maybe others have some opinions to offer. Does this mean there are
"less" of these now than before? I think not, it's a question of looking for the best market to sell when your ready
and as stated, some of the traditional places to do that are no longer viable.
