Default 8X57 Mauser using 220 Gr. Sierras?

Several years ago I bought 3 lbs of Sierra 175 gr. Sierra Pro Hunters factory seconds. After sorting and weighing I wound up with well over 1,000 useable bullets. Back in those days the Sierra Factory Outlet Store never weighed anything. 3 scoops was 3 pounds no matter the size of the bullets!

I have enjoyed loading those using Milsurp 4350. My commercial brass filled to the top with 4350 will hold a maximum of 52 grs of this powder. It is a slightly compressed round that shoots great in my Mausers.

But alas, all good things come to an end. The 175's are gone but I have a coffee can full of 220 gr. Sierras. Using both 4350 and 4895 I cannot get good results in the 9.45 twist. I really cannot afford to experiment with a bunch of different powders.

So, (finally) here is the question. Is it even possible to get good groups using 220 gr. bullets in a standard twist 8X57 barrel?

Per Greenhill's formula, 11.3" twist would be enough with the Sierra 220 #2420.

If you are loading max charges try a middle of the road charge with those powders and see how you do.
