Default Sporting trapdoor

Pictures of a sporterized rifle I found a couple years ago at Des Moines Gun Show. 455,000 serial range, exc. bore, fitting and checkering of wood is first rate. Had to give the exorbitant amount of $275 for it. Would like to find an equally nice sporting Krag but the ones I find are very ugly. Farmertrapdoor 1 005..jpg

Nice wood on that one, Iowa, though I would have used black or rosewood on the nose.

That`s one hell of a good looking custom TD. How does it shoot?

Shoots as good as my ancient (66) eyes will let me. Pretty lightweight rifle so use 405 bullets & 50 grains of black for target loads. The only rifle season for deer in IA is January doe in Southern 2 tiers of counties so have not taken any game with it yet. Farmer

Beautiful wood, and excellent workmanship, yet the overall lines are somehow not to my taste. I'd prefer a longer barrel, and am definitely with Jon on the tip - it just doesn't blend in. Also, the hammer treatment turns me cold - the TD hammer is so gracefully shaped as is - yes, it can be lightened to speed up lock time, but not like that. All a matter of personal appeal - it's a beautiful rifle, just not for me. Enjoy!!!!

Not my thing either, but still kinda neat for the price you paid.

Any of you ever put a sporter together in a caliber other than the one it came in?
