    Default Remington 1903a3 build

This is my first post on this forum. I've just recently moved to U.S. WW2 milsurps. Been concentrating on Mausers until recently. After picking up a nice S.G. Garand from CMP in October I began to look for a cost effective "shooter" grade 03a3. After reading a lot of posts on this forum and others, and since I like to "tinker" as well, I decided to try and build a rifle from a National Ordinance rifle and a Gibbs refurbished drill receiver.

Was successful purchasing a nice N.O. for $300(seller assured me it had mostly Remington parts and a really nice barrel RA - 5/44) and a Remington Gibbs receiver for $125 on Gunbroker. A gunsmith friend helped me swap the receivers and headspace the barrel - required a slight chamber finish ream - for $60. Turned out pretty nice. Only surprises was the plastic handguard that came with the N.O.(got a walnut USGI from Numrich), and the N.O. sear pin which would not fit the Remington receiver.

Didn't really save much money - $550 total for everything including shipping - but it was a lot of fun and educational. Hoping it shoots well.

CSP is what you make it.

A picture of your gun is worth 1,000 words. A crappy picture is only worth 100.

After Parkerizing or blueing, could you see where the welding repair was done?

Yes when you flip the mag cutoff lever down you can see torch marks where the weld was removed. A little work with a dremel prior to re-parking would have made it unnoticeable. Also the front of the receiver ring needed a little dressing with a file to remove some high spots prior to seating the barrel.

    Hi! Nice job!
    I am doing the same with a 1913 03.
Spending a bit more than it is worth,
but for me, the rifle is worth it, and I
    am having fun too!
