  1. Default Oddball 30-06 round..

I pulled this out of a box of odds n' ends at the lgs. It's a 30-06 round made by Lake City in '43 and it's unusual in that it has five circular punch outs around the bullet's circumference. I can't find any reference online for this round. Can any one ID it?

    Thanks & best regards,
    Len

Looks like someone melted the lead filler out of an AP bullet, drilled the holes to show the penetrator, and re-assembled as a cartridge.

But I do remember One time we had to make a real impression , and needed a special round Not available at the time so we drilled one of those bad boys out and filled it with Quicksilver ( Mercury from a new quiet wall switch ), about 2 drops ........shoulda seen that mess .

From picture it only has four holes. It is White Phosphorous. I think US brass and Italian manufactured for the .303 British round. Bet if you measure the bullet it will be .310-.311 in diameter. Try Woodin Laboratories in Tuscon AZ, Bill can tell you what it is.

If you look at the shoulder area in the first photo, you can see where it is scratched from being resized in an old worn out die or a wrong seating die. But I do not think it's original at all. I go along with Gary on this one for sure.
