    Default Corrosion and Heat Treatment

I post this with the realization that it may only be interesting to me....

During one of my material science classes where I stayed awake, the professor commented that the rate of corrosion of chemically identical steels can vary dramatically depending on heat treatment processes. I have seen a few examples of this but perhaps none better than this 1917. Compare the annealed ends to the still hard middle.

Allen, very interesting observation! I can't think of one I've seen as glaring as that and frankly wouldn't have associated it with the different treatments those area's received.

Thanks for staying awake that one time...
