  1. Default 03A4 Backup Sights

Were snipers issued front and rear sight kits to install on their 03A4 in the event scope rendered useless?

I am a total non-expert on A-4s but based on my basic knowledge of where the Army drew the Line on assembly/disassembly vs. repair, I highly doubt it. I am pretty sure installing a front sight base alone would be far too difficult a task for a soldier in combat to do without an armorer's van in support.

I think they would let a soldier use a combination tool, and a screwdriver but that was about as far as it went.

i have seen some field pics of A4s with home made front sights installed...
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.

I guess with guys dying all around you on both sides it would be easier just to chuck the 03A4 and pick up something else.

SPR had two chances to get the scope right and blew it both times! But other wise a good movie.

one pic of a few Lads in Korea along with a Browning machine gun..looking out with rifles in hand..rifle laying on sand bags is a 1903A4. with a less then standard G.I. made front sight attached. hard to tell what he used...but its not an A3 issue sight.

    Thanks, Chuck.

Interesting info. Doubt the parts were issued; I am not doubting anything a GI Could cook up with a hose clamp and a washer with speed tape.
