    Default Barrel Installation Question

How do you install a different (new old stock) barrel on a 1903 Springfield so that the barrel is indexed the same way (i.e., the front sight is in the 12 o'clock position)? I assume the chamber may have to be recut to get the proper headspace. Can this be done without shims?

You align the marks on the barrel and action. Seldom does this require shims. Sometimes it requires some stock to be removed from the shoulder face on the barrel. Most times it requires some finish reaming to obtain the proper headspace. HTH

shims should not be used with square threads..
if you not done this...i would not recomend doing so...
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.
